Nathan Turner

Actor

Raised in the country and trained in the city, Nathan is an actor driven by a passion for theatre. His dedication to playful character work began in complete awe at age five, watching his older siblings perform on a tiny stage in Moura Hall. With a bachelor’s degree behind him, he strives to bring full commitment to every role.

  • Raised in the country, Nathan is a Brisbane based actor driven by a passion for theatre. His commitment to grounded, playful character work began in complete awe at age five, watching his older siblings perform on a tiny stage in Moura Hall. That early experience ignited a lifelong curiosity for storytelling and the magic of live performance.

Nathan’s rural upbringing shaped not only his work ethic but also his love of play; always in the drama room at lunchtime devising skits, watching old plays, and laughing - a lot. In 2022, he moved to Brisbane to pursue formal training and acting opportunities. It was a scary but bold step that exposed him to a variety of theatre practices, from contemporary ensemble work in 1972: The Future of Sex (2023) to classical plays, and newly written works such as Very Fine People (2024), Crow’s Nest (2025), and Happy Birthday Natalie (2025) at La Boite Theatre. Each instance affirming the notion that there was nothing else he’d rather be doing.

Completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) solidified his understanding of performance and character craft, while also allowing him to explore the playful, intangible aspects of theatre-making that first drew him to the stage. Nathan revels in discovering the small, authentically vulnerable moments in every role, balancing emotional honesty with curiosity and fun.

  • The ensemble members tasked with inhabiting the rehearsal room bring a responsiveness that is integral to the work’s impact, which is no easy feat given that they are mostly tasked with observation and reaction more than action.

The wider acting troupe, including Jules Berry, Nathan Turner, Frankie Kershaw, Yianni Sines, Carmen O’Connell, Stella Peterson, Alex Flew, Cherie McCaffery, Brock O’Rourke, Grace Swadling, and Liam Olsen, create the necessary contrast between theatrical artifice and lived drama. Their disbelief, ridicule, and gradual absorption into the story help frame the central conflict of the play. The actors within the play watch, judge, imitate, and attempt to reproduce what the Characters insist can never truly be reproduced.
