Ebony Webb

Actor

Ebony Webb is a Magandjin/Brisbane-based multidisciplinary artist working across theatre and film as an actor, director and designer. Her practice is grounded in physical performance and collaborative process, creating bold, contemporary work defined by precision, strong visual language, and a commitment to dynamic storytelling.

  • Ebony creates work as an actor, physical theatre performer, writer, director/choreographer, stage manager and in production and costume design. As of 2025, she is the Associate Director of Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre and part of their core performance company and teaching team. In 2025, Ebony starred in Zen Zen Zo’s Blushing, which received the Matilda Award for Best Independent Production.

Ebony studied her Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts, majoring in Acting, at the Aboriginal Centre of the Performing Arts in 2017 and is now completing her Bachelor of Creative Arts (Acting) at QUT. She has also trained with The Actors Workshop, and with Zen Zen Zo’s Actor’s Dojo since 2022. Ebony has been working in Brisbane’s independent sector since 2017, as an actor and creator in theatre and film with companies such as La Boite Theatre Company, Zen Zen Zo, The Dead Puppet Society, Creative Clones, ArtSpear Entertainment, Magnetic North Theatre Company, A Moveable Theatre, School2Stage and immersive, interactive companies Counterpilot, Folly Games and Broad Encounters. Ebony is also a creator with digital production company Hijinks, making content surrounding games and storytelling.

Having created and performed works in several festivals, including Brisbane Powerhouse’s MELT Festival, Splendour in the Grass and Woodford Folk Festival, in venues big and small, and sometimes in no venue at all, Ebony is a versatile artist with a passion for boundary breaking work that challenges the actors and the audience alike.

  • ‘...performed as an ensemble in varying combinations, with a throughline of push and pull between Shame (O’Leary) and Curiosity (Webb). Explosive movement and shifting formations, as well as the evolution of the costuming, maintained a strong sense of dynamism over the course of the hour-long performance.’

‘…we see a cacophony of other forms mixed in, performance poetry, rough-hewn ensemble dance, semi-contained chaos-play. A feeling of present-day Australian nostalgia pervades, with stereotypical ‘ozzie’ characters living out their best lives amongst sprinklers, damp washing and water fights.’

‘Broad Encounters have created a nearly unexplainable show in Love Lust Lost.’
