Kat Coomber is a Meanjin-based theatre-maker, Stage Manager, performer, and arts educator who thrives in the organised chaos of live performance. Passionate about collaborative storytelling, Kat enjoys working across both performance and production roles, helping bring ambitious creative ideas to life from rehearsal room to final curtain.
Kat has worked extensively in stage management roles within Brisbane’s independent theatre scene. She previously served as Production Stage Manager for Vena Cava Productions’ Grand Guignol, where she coordinated complex technical elements and supported a team of artists in delivering bold and visually striking work. She has also worked as a Stage Manager for the Freshblood Festival, collaborating with emerging theatre-makers as they developed and presented new Australian productions.
Alongside her production work, Kat is an experienced performer. She has appeared in several independent productions and most recently performed as a lead with Passion Productions. Working both onstage and behind the scenes has given her a holistic understanding of the creative and logistical demands of theatre-making.
Kat is currently completing a double Bachelor in Secondary Education and Fine Arts (Drama), combining her love of theatre with a passion for arts education. She is particularly interested in creating spaces where artists feel empowered to experiment, take creative risks, and develop their own voice. When she’s not in the rehearsal room or calling cues, Kat can usually be found reading, playing video games, or enthusiastically crafting!

“Kat only stepped into the role of Vienna three weeks ago while also stage managing, which is highly impressive! Vienna is the one throwing the party (for the boy she has a crush on). She plays the role with a frantic, hyper-responsible energy; fussing over decorations, freaking out when things go south, letting uninvited guests crash, and desperately trying to keep chill while quietly disintegrating on the inside. I really feel for her. Big time.”
