Nicholas Sayers

Nicholas Sayers

Actor

Nicholas has been performing on stage since 2016, primarily with Villanova Players. His most recent production with them was their end of year musical ‘Summer Rain’ in 2021. Preceding that he performed in their 3-hander version of ‘Switzerland’ as ‘Edward Ridgeway’. He has performed once with Ad Astra as ‘Bob’ In ‘Marvin’s Room’ and hopes to continue performing with us.

Biography

Nicholas started down the acting path playing the boisterous Pip in 7 Little Australians bringing to life his love of the stage. He continued with VP’s in their hilarious Tex-Mex rendition of Shakespear’s classic Much-Ado About Nothing in mid 2017 where played the bumbling ‘Verges’.  The show was very well received and although he loved the hilarity, there was something missing the he couldn’t quite put to words.

Late 2018 gave him a small ensemble role during VP’s summer musical High Society which, although allowed him to demonstrate his singing ability, again left him feeling unfulfilled as an actor.

In August of 2019 Nicholas was cast in Picnic At Hanging Rock as ‘The Honorable Michael FitzHubert’ Nick really came into his own with this performance imbuing the stage with the pompous attitude of a British nobleman but mixing it with mysterious and yet still endearing qualities of Michael.

Nick still wanted a chance to show that he could grab and hold the attention of audiences and hold it, a chance he would be given by Bruce Par who directed VP’s Switzerland in mid 2020. Nicholas was entrusted with the role of ‘Edward Ridgway’ a meek and lowly publishers assistant with a dark secret. COVID put a hold on this production but thankfully it only served as a positive allowing a more polished performance to shine.

To late 2021, Nick performed again in a Villanova Players Musical Summer Rain in the role of Clarrie Nugent. A role which let his voice “sing” for itself (even if a certain microphone wasn’t working).

As 2022 draws closer to its natural end Nick hopes to perform much more than once a year and begin running down the path, he started walking 6 years ago.

Reviews

“Nicholas Sayers will surely be seen in larger parts in the future, but for now he shows great character support as Bob, the temporary receptionist at his brother’s GP surgery, and provides Marvin’s voice.”

Rounding out this fantastic cast is Marita McVeigh as Dr Charlotte/Retirement Home Director and Nicolas Sayers as Bob. Both McVeigh and Sayers play their roles with grace and ease, doubling as the stage crew; striking and setting the stage at incredible pace. Playing an onstage role and being stage crew at the same time is no easy feat so commendation must be given to both of these actors!

Nicholas Sayers had the difficult task of bringing life to a character that changes significantly over the course of the play. He portrayed the naïve Ridgeway with energy and childlike charm and really comes into his own as Ridgeway displays a more dangerous persona. Sayer looked supremely comfortable on stage, and also demonstrated his skill as a singer.

The strongest performances came from... and Nicholas Sayers as The Honourable Michael FitzHubert. Two young actors with a high level of professionalism, the play lifts every time one of them walked on stage.

In the role of the young British toff, Sayers is everything the audience needed. Complete with poncy attitude, voice, and demeanour he creates a strangely endearing yet slightly off-putting young man. His rapport with his assistant Albert, Steven Eggington, is fantastic and the two make a believable pair.
