Marcus Oborn is an Australian actor, voice actor, voice and text coach, director, and academic based in South East Queensland.

Biography

Marcus Oborn is an Australian actor, voice actor, voice and text coach, director and academic.  In addition to his formal training as an actor, he has studied under the guidance of legendary Hollywood acting coach Larry Moss, British theatre stalwart Mike Alfreds, and world authority on actor’s voices Professor Patsy Rodenburg OBE.

As an actor, Marcus has performed for major and independent theatre companies and production houses across South East Queensland, including Disney+, NBC Universal, Moonriver, Matchbox, Opera Queensland, Queensland Music Festival, MetroArts, The Hive, Playlab, Room to Play, Big Scary Animal, and Empire Theatres.  He made his international television debut in 2022 as Lars Anderson in Young Rock 2, and will feature in Nautilus on Disney+ in late 2023.

Marcus has voiced national and international advertising campaigns for some of Australia’s most recognised brands, including Dairy Farmers, PPQ, Harvey Norman, Warner Bros Movie World, Village Roadshow, Thorn Money, TMGM, FijiKava, Containers for Change, Master Builders Queensland, and more.  He is a member of BrisVO, Brisbane’s elite voice over collective: https://www.brisvo.com/artists/marcus-oborn/

Marcus has directed, produced and designed several productions including MOTH by Declan Greene, described as “nothing short of spectacular” by audiences across the season, the Australian premiere of Buckets by Adam Barnard, a sold out run of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Oedipus by Sophocles, and the Mercy Seat by Neil Labute.  In 2023, Marcus founded his own company, Audentis Theatre, to further his directorial pursuits.

Marcus is a voice and text coach of rising prominence in Queensland.  He is one of fifty Patsy Rodenburg Associate’s globally, the second ever in Australia.  To gain certification as an associate, Marcus trained extensively with Rodenburg in New York and Portugal between 2019 and 2022.  He has worked as a voice and text lecturer since 2017 at several universities across South East Queensland, also working with artistic and corporate clients across Australia since 2019.  To further his craft as a voice and text coach he is undertaking study in the Doctor of Creative Arts (DCAR) at the University of Southern Queensland, with his studies set to conclude in 2025.

Marcus is a recipient of funding through the Queensland Arts Showcase Program in 2018 for MOTH by Declan Greene, and the Australia Council for the Arts Individuals Fund to support his studies with Patsy Rodenburg.  He is also the recipient of the Alan Edwards Memorial Scholarship, in memory of Alan Edwards, founding member of Queensland Theatre, which supported his final year of study at the University of Southern Queensland.
