Reviews

Kyle McCallion and Vanessa Moltzen were a dynamic duo as Henry Harry and Rosannah Deluce. Both delivering outstanding and emotive performances, and their onstage chemistry was sensational. Well-matched, the actors skilfully managed the rapid-fire dialogue, a wide array of props, and some highly physical blocking. Their American accents were appropriately distinct from one another and remained consistent throughout.

Likeable oil rig worker Henry Harry (Kyle McCallion) is a sad and lonely figure. We learn this despite him not speaking until well into the 80-minute (no interval) work’s first act, which serves as a testament to McCallion’s skill. And when he does speak, after the physically and emptionally exhausted Rosannah has slept for two days, there is a trepidation that hints as to his own fragility, such is the nuance of McCallion’s performance.

Kyle McCallion’s Henry has the right amount of humour, and a clever calm that keeps our interest. We like both these characters immediately, which is essential in the short piece. These characters have been hurt and both actors show finesse at holding back their performances as the layers are slowly revealed – the ‘brilliant traces’ of their lives, the evidence of their existence, is the damage done and the scars that are left.

Of course, the lead Puffs, played by Bailey Sprecak, Kyle McCallion and Hannah Boyd had endless amounts of chemistry on stage and brought the audience on an immersive and fully fleshed-out journey through each of their character’s developments through school.
