Reviews

The entirety of the cast worked so well as a cohesive collective, it is difficult to describe their performances individually. Each were committed to their character, which had clearly been researched and developed into well-rounded and thought out personalities, and interacted with one another with the familiarity one would expect from members of a sports team. Each brought a powerful intensity, light and shade and above all, energy, to their performance. Each actor was faultless in their execution of dialogue and blocking contributing to the overall professionalism of the show.

Aimee Duroux is a comedic genius in this production as Catherine’s distant but loving sister Claire. Stepping back into Catherine’s life, Claire attempts to take over and care for Catherine, even though she keeps pushing back. Duroux brought a much-needed lightheartedness to this production and was a solid rock actor throughout.

“Aimee Duroux charmed as Catherine’s over-bearing, successful sister Claire, who swoops in to ‘save the day’. Her Claire was played almost as the comic relief but was simultaneously presented as a complex character who carried her own pain and sacrifices. The tension between the two sisters was played out beautifully between Gerard and Duroux, with moments of genuine affection working against their conflicting character differences.”

“Catherine’s sister, Claire, is a pushy New Yorker, delightfully brought to life by Aimee Duroux. Aimee studied in New York, so she brings an authenticity – and much humour – to the role.”

“Aimee Duroux is also wonderful as Catherine’s estranged, but still protective, older sister Claire, who arrives from her comfortable life as a currency analyst in New York for Robert’s funeral. Claire’s obnoxious first appearance is a joy thanks to Duroux’s considered dialogue delivery. Her practical focus, in juxtaposition to Catherine’s, not only has seen the bills paid while Catherine provided Robert’s care, but ensures Catherine the promise of a new life (in also anticipation of an coming mental breakdown). And it provides a memorable character juxtaposition when Claire appears authentically hunger over following drinking with hard core partying theoretical physicists at the out-of-control funeral reception after which Catherine and Hal share beer, kisses, confessions, memories of their four-years-ago meeting and more. Together Duroux and Gerard capture hint of a between-sister banter despite their passive aggressive interactions and obvious lack of closeness.”

“Aimee Duroux (Thor: Ragnarok (Marvel), Toasted TV (Channel 11), who played Alison, has a real future in physical comedy, her timing was good and for me, she was the standout of the night.”

“Some of the plays I have seen during the 2017 Anywhere Festival promised hilarity and great humour. In contrast, the promotional material for ‘Signs’ promised neither, but writer Aimee Duroux, and Director Samantha Bull, have created a really funny and enjoyable show, using words and silences to great effect.”

“Stealing the show as the comic relief was Aimee Duroux with her ‘Gretchen Wieners’ inspired Alison. As Wing Attack and the keeper of all the secrets, Duroux was engaging and funny. She brought much-needed light to a frequently extreme production.  Her comedy was dependable and delivered with gusto.”

“Headlining the emotional turmoil is Alison (Aimee Duroux) as she squeals and shrieks her frustrated impatience and spreads her doubt in herself and her company like a disease infesting her team mates minds. Duroux is feisty and funny in her quick deliveries while managing to combine her role as the comic relief with an unsettling core of rage and pain..”
